Harmattan 2019
Designed and made in Senegal, the latest collection, Harmattan 2019, serves as an ode to the modern professional, travelling globally and needing a versatile wardrobe that’s able to cater to their changing environments. This collection uses sporting fabrics such as neoprene and lycra mixed with cottons and linens in shades of blue and beige, reminiscent of Dakar during the Harmattan season. The silhouettes bring definition and avoid constriction, ranging from tracksuits and drop-crop trousers to kimonos and shirts. All these items serve to adapt to the wearer’s needs whilst adding a layer of artistry to their everyday expression.
“Coming in from Dakar with a very clear concept in terms of design and what we’re bringing to the table, and then getting to Abidjan, where we shot the collection, and being struck with a different reality makes you consider if Mwami still has its place here, and if it does, then how do we make it adaptable for every climate?” Thus, whether you’re in Dakar with its warm, dusty days and cool sea breeze nights, in Abidjan where it’s hot and humid, in Joburg in the middle of cold winter or in Nairobi with its bright sun, the Mwami wardrobe will cater to your every need.
